As Jóias do Rosário
Celebrated throughout October and with more than 300 years, the festivity of "Nossa Senhora do Rosário" is the most important tradition in Gondomar. On the first Sunday of the month, this town — a quiet, dark and silent suburb in the outskirts of Porto, gains a new life, where an epicenter of feast is born, with bright and colorful lights invading the black sky — the "jewels" (jóias) of the Rosário. From the need to immortalize and pay homage to a traditional portuguese festivity poorly documented, this photobook was born, which is the result of an analog and digital photographic session, carried out on the night of the 4th of October 2019.
The photographic spreads are repeatedly invaded by loose typography, which reinforces the idea of a multisensory affront, intrinsic to this festivity, as well as it assists in the building of a narrative that is inherently connected to the personal experience of a "Gondomarense" who is an assiduous participant of this festivity.
